  Session at College Art Association

Join Amy next week at the annual conference of the College Art Association in Los Angeles.  Amy will be making a presentation on the artist's role as mentor and advocate as part of the ARTspace session, [Meta] Mentors: Beyond Tenure.  ARTspace is a major element of CAA's annual conference program.  This "conference within the conference" is developed by artists for artists, and all ARTspace activities are free and open to the public.
   
  Think Tank 7: Foundations Now

Amy has been invited to attend Think Tank 7: Foundations Now, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  Think Tank is an annual residency focused on undergraduate studio arts pedagogy.  The residency is organized by Integrative Teaching International.  ITI promotes wide-ranging discussion about the state of higher education in the 21st century by bringing new voices into that discussion, teacher by teacher.
   
  New Spring 2012 Course Websites

Now that the new semester is underway, Amy and her students can connect to one another via their course websites.  Amy uses Google to build sites for all of her FAU courses.  The web pages become important spaces where she and her students can extend in-studio projects and discussions.  The sites are shared with the whole world, so anyone can see what's unfolding.  Just click on the "Course Websites" link on the left.
   
  Exhibition During Art Basel Miami Beach

As Art Basel Miami Beach unfolds this weekend, Amy's work will be part of the MICA/Art Basel at The Betsy Hotel.  The exhibition is on view at the Underground Gallery at The Betsy in South Beach.
   
  Gamut BFA Exhibition Opens Tonight

The fall BFA exhibition, Gamut, opens tonight in the Ritter Art Gallery on FAU's Boca Raton campus.  The exhibition features the work of fourteen graduating seniors, representing art education, ceramics, graphic design, painting and drawing, photography, and sculpture.  Amy congratulates her BFA Senior Seminar students and their loved ones on this momentous accomplishment.  Gamut continues through December 9.
   
  Practice and Research: Work by Emerging Artist-Educators

This week, Amy is at SCAD in Savannah, attending the annual meeting of the Southeast College Art Conference.  Among other things, she will be chairing a session, Practice and Research: Work by Emerging Artist-Educators.  This forum gives the work of SECAC's newest members meaningful exposure, while providing attendees with multiple points of view on contemporary studio practice.
   
  Provisions: Selected Work from the BFA Senior Seminar

Amy's BFA Senior Seminar students were recently invited to install an exhibition of small works at the Blue Planet Writers' Room in West Palm Beach.  Blue Planet uses art, technology, and international collaboration to teach writing to young people.  As curator, Amy worked with her students to compose Provisions, an exhibition of experimental pieces created during the seminar's studio marathon project.  The exhibition continues through November 25.
   
  Presentation on Undergraduate Research in the Visual Arts

Amy and her colleague, Liz Atzberger, recently presented at the Florida Statewide Symposium on Engagement in Undergraduate Research, hosted by the University of Central Florida.  Their presentation, "Undergraduate Research in the Visual Arts: Best Practices from the Studio Arts and Their Application Across Disciplines," invited colleagues from across disciplines into the studio for some interdisciplinary discussion and inspiration.

Amy and Liz illustrated their discussion with images of work by their undergraduate students, including Sandra Lanz.
